WDI Reveal the New Design of the TOT - Guardians of Galaxy : Mission Breakout Building at Disney's California Adventure

WDI released a new video with Joe Rhode and others Imagineers working on the transformation of DCA Tower of terror in the Guardians of Galaxy Collector fortress. They do their best to explain how they want to create a new building" which will look beautiful day and night" but the problem - if you have a look at all the articles posted on the web since the video was released a few hours ago - and all the comments on Youtube is that everybody think that it looks in fact ugly (!) As someone says in his comment on Youtube: "It doesn't look beautiful at all. It looks hideous. On top of that, it doesn't even look like any of you (save for Mr. Dangle Ear) are that excited about the project at all. This is the worst idea in the history of Disneyland and you all know it."

As for me, and with all the respect i have for Joe Rhode - and i have a LOT of respect for Joe - i have to say that i am not, too, convinced by the transformation. It's not that i really think it's ugly and i am ready to give to the Imagineers the benefit of the doubt until the opening of the new ride next year but i have the feeling that it's going to be hard to convince me that "it looks beautiful". The big problem we have here is that the TOT building can be seen almost from any point you're standing at DCA and if it happen that it looks as ugly as the fans so far think it will, then DLR will have a major problem to resolve...

Check the video below and let us know what YOU think of the new design of the building!

I think that it has a steam punk feel on the outside of the building, the inside looks interesting ..... so lets wait and see ?

Well, I think both TDS and DHS have very beautiful looking versions of ToT. The ones in DCA and WDS are actually very ugly versions of the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

So, worst case scenario for me: WDI transforms an ugly building into a different kind of ugly looking building. What's the difference from an aesthetic point-of-view? Ugly remains ugly.

I'm more worried about the theme. In my opinion, GotG was a seriously overrated movie that I didn't really like. So I'm not looking forward to an attraction based on this franchise. At the same time, I'm a huge fan of the classic Hollywood theme ...

Hideous... transformation of entrance into Buena Vista Street to give the parc more atmosphere and then transforming this beautiful building into an ugly building. It should not be a fun fair...

Yes the DHS has/had an attractive exterior but I thought the whole Twilight Zone storyline was rather weak. And while the DCA version's exterior was less attractive it pretty much had the same story. It was never really convincing as a Hollywood hotel.

It's hard to tell what the Collector's tower will really look like in the natural light and in context so I'll reserve judgement there. But I'm excited not to have an inferior clone anyone and something with a little more interest. Disney has shown time and time again that a good ride/attraction is not dependent on how good the movie (it was based on) was. To put in another way, it does not matter all that much if you liked or disliked the movie as long as the ride is great. That is unless you are just being provincially obstinate.
