Will Indiana Jones Adventure be build at Disneyland Paris ?
This is THE attraction that everybody is waiting for at Paris Magic Kingdom : Indiana Jones Adventure and the temple of the forbidden eye. All DLP fans know that the room to built it have been kept in Adventureland, but the hope to see it built one day is sometime vanishing...
Well, as you will see on the document below, the imagineers not only have think about it, but already did some blueprints. Although this one was probably done many years ago, when the park will decide to built it - translate: when they will have the money to do it - you can be sure that all WDI imagineers will be happy to create this beloved attraction at DLP.
To say the truth, all the imagineers that i happen to meet among those years , all agree that bringing Indiana Jones Adventure at DLP will not only be one of the best choice - in terms of attraction - that DLP management could make, but, also, that it will be an instant hit among DLP visitors.
Yes, but.....the main problem is the price : Indiana Jones Adventure is a VERY expensive attraction , and - this is an important point - the maintenance cost of the attraction is - or at least was - very high, too. And you must never forget that maintenance costs at DLP are already very high.
How much is the cost of Indiana Jones Adventure ? Frankly, i don't know the real price, but not less than 150 millions of dollars, may be more, now.
Now, i don't know if DLP is paying the new atttractions at WDI in dollars or in euros, but if it's in dollars, with the change rate between the dollar and the euro, it will be a pretty good deal for the park's management to order to WDI an Indiana Jones Adventure right now!
To come back to the document, you will see that the building envisioned for Indiana Jones Adventure will take a big part of the land still available in Adventureland, with its back wall close to the Pirates of Caribbean building.
It seems, too, that the entrance will be through another small temple - like in Anaheim - located in front of the "Temple du péril".
To give you a better idea, here is a satellite view of the park with the blueprint upon it, and it's more easy to locate exactly where will be what, if one day the park built it.
Later this month another big E-ticket will open at the Walt Disney Studios : the Tower of terror. Although the TOT is cheaper than Indiana Jones Adventure, for DLP its cost is really important. So don't expect another big E-ticket before the 20th anniversary in 2012. But if DLP management want to do a good choice for this future celebration, "Indiana Jones Adventure and the temple of the forbidden eye" will not only be a good one, but simply the BEST choice they could make.

Wonderful new! I guess it is the first time that a written proof of IJA in Disneyland Paris is released! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteVery nice... Were there ever any plans for Splash Mountain? Is there an expansion pad set for it?
ReplyDeleteYes, there IS plans for Splash Mountain, at the back of Frontierland. They were done 10 or 12 years ago, and may be we will talk about it someday...
ReplyDeleteDon't bet on Indy coming to DLP anytime in the near future. 2012 would be extremely optimistic. Although I would never rule it out, there are no plans currently for Paris to get it. The plans for the next E-Ticket won't be announced for at least another year or two. And that ticket isn't Indy and it won't be out until 2011 or 2012. So if they started on an Indy ride, which they haven't... it wouldn't see the light of day before say... 2014 or 2015 at the earliest. And that presumes the economy continues growing. Were a recession or something else happen it would get pushed back further or perhaps be cancelled. Now all this doesn't even take into account the 200 million dollar price tag it would come with... so there you have it.
ReplyDeleteWill the E-ticket at least be for DLP instead of DSP? It's been a long time since they've had something fresh...
ReplyDeleteIf not Indy, than what?
Brilliant Article!
ReplyDeleteThis attraction is no where near as expensive as 200 million dollars! it didn't even cost that when it was first built in Disneyland California! Don't forget that all whe imagineering has been done already and the technology is now a decade or more old which means the price will have dropped a lot, I personally think they could build this for less than they spent on TOT at the studios.
No, you would be wrong anonymous. It would have cost nowhere near 200 million when it was built back in the mid 90's. If they had built the originally proposed Indy ride back then, it would have cost 200 million. It was truly a monster of an attraction. But it was scaled back an DL got the ride we currently know. If built today the ride would cost very close to double what it did then. Sorry to rain on your parade, but that's the case and right now the Mouse doesn't plan on adding it to Paris. That doesn't mean the future isn't bright for DLP though. The attendance and lowering of the parks dept are great news for European Disney fans. Just wait till the end of the decade... Paris will be full of surprises. Both announced and unannounced.
ReplyDeleteI hope the surprises are unannounced, because what they have announced doesn't really set me on fire and once TOT is open there's nothing left in the pipe... Except the Stitch thing at DSP and that really doesn't equal an Indy or Splash for me!
ReplyDelete(Alain - where in Frontierland was Splash supposed to be placed?)
It was supposed to be placed in Critter Corral:

cheers thanks for the answer... I just hope that whatever they add is in character with the insane level of detail in the rest of the park. I'm disappointed that Tomorrowland has already drifted "off topic"... that's something that can never be put back like it was once Pandora's box has been opened...
ReplyDeleteRode this several times a couple of weeks ago. Have to say I must be in the minority but I found it dull and old hat. The Dinosaur technology vehicles are so uncomfortable and the set pieces pretty lame.
ReplyDeleteHonor Hunter, I think you read my comment wrong, I said that the disneyland version DIDN'T cost 200 million.
ReplyDeleteSo your saying that you think the Indy ride would cost 200 million to build today?
The imagineering has already been done and the technology is a decade old, and if you mean 200 million dollars? thats about 100-150 euros which is less than they spent on TOT I believe.
I don't claim to know anything, all my comments are based on educated guesses based on the actual facts we do know. I just don't agree with it being so much more expensive to build now than when it was built in the 90's (double?!?)
You don't pay double the price to build what is essentially a clone of an old attraction.
Oh and I take it you can't tell us anything about what you do know? isn't that how it works and then you say oh yes I knew all about it when they do anounce something? Sorry to be cynical, it's nothing against you personally, but there are lot of people who claim they know exactly whats happening but can't say anything.
Hello, i will try to answer the questions : first, for spalsh mountain, the location , if it was built, was behind the frontierland train station , not where critter corral ( now woody's round up ) was.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the version envisioned for DLP was a different one than the one we know. May be we will talk about that in a future topic...
About the building or not of IJA : with all the respect i have for Honor Hunter, and it's excellent blueskydisney site , it's always difficult to tell five years before what will or will not be built FOR SURE.
DLPI and the park's management have always plenty of plans , but everything can change. However, i , too, will be surprised if they built IJA in five years , not because its cost, but simply because i don't trust the "visionary" abilty of the management! ( i'm not talking here about the imagineering, of course )
BUT a miracle is always possible, and , if the TOT is as succesful as i think it will be at the WDS, they MAY realize that building huge attraction ( big building, big decors, big e-ticket , etc...) is what pay the most . And change their mind about IJA. We all know that IJA will be a tremendous success for the park , and that it's the best choice they can do, but they don't - or they think that its cost is such that it won't bring in the park enough "more" visitors to balance the cost. They are wrong, but it is precisely there where they don't have vision.
Anonymous, I hope you didn't take offense at my comments. I wasn't trying to be rude. But, yes the technology is a decade old, but new technology would likely be put into it. That really wouldn't be the reason for the costs. Construction cost are quite highter than they were in the 90's. As well as that the Imagineers themeselves working on that ride would be far more expensive today. A ticket to Disneyland in the mid 90's cost far below what it cost now, as would any E-ticket and INDY is a heck of an E-Ticket.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it will never come, but it's simply not in the cards. Things could change, of course... but the likelihood of them adding an Indy ride isn't as great as them adding something that is more contemporary. The Suits still rule over the Creatives, although not nearly as they did a decade ago. It takes time to change a culture. In a decade, if Lasseter is still in charge and he's been able to change a good amount of the culture(which he is trying to do, btw) then we can look at this with fresh perspective.
Splash Mountain, is another story...
For another day, I believe.
TTFN
I want the Splash Mountain in Disneyland Paris.
ReplyDeleteA Splash Mountain of The Little Mermaid.
