Star Tours 2 coming to Hong Kong Disneyland Tomorrowland !
Although it's not totally official yet, i have a great news for all Hong Kong Disneyland fans: Star Tours 2 is coming to HKDL Tomorrowland! You can expect it probably the year after Mystic Manor opening, i.e in 2014 or 2015 the latest, and certainly before Shanghaî Disneyland opening. Although it's not official yet there has been recently some leaks and The Standard.com in its report last week said that "The park reportedly plans to build an artificial lake and another amusement facility with a theme similar to Star Wars".
Personally i knew it since a while from my personal source and i think that Star Tours 2 will be a major addition to HKDL Tomorrowland. With the opening of four major attractions/land between now and 2015 Hong Kong Disneyland will be ready to face Shanghaî Disneyland opening. By the way, there is also a kind of logic in all this: If you follow the expansion plan of Hong Kong Disneyland, Autopia was opened in Tomorrowland in 2006, Animation Academy opened in Main Street in 2007, It's a Small World and Toy Story Land were the expansion for Fantasyland in 2008 and 2011, and Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Manor will be the expansion for Adventureland in 2012 and 2013. If you trace HKDL move, you'll understand that their next expansion plan should be back to Tomorrowland, and that's exactly what it's gonna be.
Now, where exactly will they put ST2 in Tomorrowland? Jump to my Star Tours 2 site to discover the exact location where Star Tours 2 will be build at HKDL Tomorrowland, and more details!

Hi alain, do you have any source that hkdl will build a new land in the coming expansion work? Or only star tour?
ReplyDeleteAnd will be a unique edition star war or any difference between hkdl one and others?
Keith
No, only Star Tours, no new land for now, except the ones coming with Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Manor, of course. In the "what's new coming" section there is also the four new hotels that HKDL want to build (see my previous article this week about that).
ReplyDeleteAnd about Star Tours 2, it very probably will be the same version than at DL or WDW.
You forgot the opening of the U.F.O. zone and Stitch in Tomorrowland :)
ReplyDeleteBut this is cool news!!!
Great news! This park really needs more attractions like this. I just think that 4 more hotels is way too much for such a small park, that money would be better spent to further expand it (the park).
ReplyDeletegreat news the new star tours is way better than the classic one...anybody ever wonder why star wars has never been given its own land? just like cars, toy story and soon avatar...I would think it would be a monumental success given the franchises enduring popularity
ReplyDeleteok only Paris is left to receive the excellent new star tours...anybody know why or if there were any plans to just make a star wars themed land instead of a single attraction just like they're doing for cars and avatar? I would think it would be a monumental success give the franchises enduring popularity.
ReplyDeleteI hate lands that are themed to 1 movie...
ReplyDeleteSo please no Star Wars land, it will fit great into Tomorrowland!!!
I agree Tom...the 'generic' lands as done in the original Disney land are best because they provide great flexibility with the rides and attractions...you can have specific themes like Indiana Jones and completely generic ones like jungle cruise in the same land...there is no limits...thats the genius of Walt Disney. I'm just saying if they are building lands based on one film franchise like toy story or avatar I feel like star wars would be the most successful and popular by a long shot!
DeleteTo danielz6: WDI probably worked a long time ago on a Star Wars land project but apart the cost for building it there was also the main problem of the royalties to Georges Lucas. And considering that this was during the reign of Michaell Eisner who was not really the kind of man to accept to pay big royalties, this might be one of the reasons a Star Wars land never happened...and also why we had to wait so long to get Star Tours 2.
ReplyDeletenot only iron man?
ReplyDeleteThis article was written in January 2012, almost three years ago, at a time Star Tours 2 was envisioned for HKDL before being cancelled for Iron Man. So, no Star Tours 2 for HKDL.
