HKDL Mystic Manor Full Ride Video !
That's it, folks, the very first video showing the FULL Mystic Manor ride appeared on Youtube, and the video is in HD and pretty good all along. Major Warning: you will see the whole ride on the video so need to say that it's spoilers from the beginning to the end. If you intend to go to HKDL and do the ride, the best is to do NOT watch the video. You'll also find my feelings about the ride after the video.
So, from this first video what we can say is that the ride looks pretty damn' good and, for me, exactly like i thought it would be, i.e not a "haunted" house but an enchanted one with a "eerie" atmosphere, a place where each artifact becomes alive when Albert the monkey open the box that he shouldn't open.
WDI Imagineers brilliantly use special effects that we saw previously in others famous rides like the Haunted Mansion or Indiana Jones Adventure, and added smart projection effects and plenty of others, as well as a great final climax scene with an effect that, personally, i didn't see coming. The two Audio-Animatronics figure will be welcome by AAs lovers and the whole thing makes a great 5 minutes long ride which, if not as scary or frightening as the Haunted Mansion or Phantom Manor, will be enjoyable for sure by everyone, even young kids. A new classic is born, all my congrats to all Imagineers who worked on Mystic Manor!
Let me know in your comments what you think of the ride!

Amazing! I would really like to visit and experience this ride one day.
ReplyDeletelooks absolutely amazing! i would gladly take it over haunted mansion here in the states!
ReplyDeleteWell at last we can see it! I really loved the new character but its true the manor itself lost most of the scary elements in this adaptation (well medusa and the archor is a bit frightening) absolute gourgeous attention to the detail, and really expensive atracction of course!
ReplyDeleteFor me, the phantom manor needs a major refurbiment now! but without it the phantom manor will be allways the best!
by the way i like the amazing ending!! incredible FX!
OmG!! i can't wait to see what they can do with Ratatouie!!! (cheaper FX of course) ...
Wow that ending was so unexpected and really impressive !
ReplyDeleteBut then, it kinda makes the rest of the attraction a bit boring... I think they should have kept more classical scary elements from TPM (and loose the princessy pixie dust...)
But as always, everything is done gorgeously, lots of great details and everything !
(and it's nice to have yet another good example of the trackless technology that will be used for Ratatouille !)
Ratatouille will not have cheaper effects, but different ones mostly 3D projections and will look more, technologically speaking, like the Spiderman or Transformers ride. You'll know more in my upcoming update about it.
ReplyDeleteThis attraction looks amazing - even better than I thought it would. I'm surprised though, that they used English in the attraction, as many visitors won't understand what is being said.
ReplyDeleteStunning- Imagineering can still pull off a great attraction when it wants to!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alain!

Really seems like a hit. Wish they would start building more rides like that in the states rather than movie tie-ins. Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Manor really show Imagineering going back to their roots and I think that both may be better than Carsland based on their originality.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that they geared the ride towards local tastes. I think the Chinese are not interested in scary like Haunted Mansion so they made a more mystical, magical type mansion. Also I'm sure they will love the cute monkey character like they love all cute cartoon characters.
Just amaizing!!!!! Always i thought that the "DARK RIDES" needed more visual and technological effects, and this ride do it!!!! I hope that all the next "DARK RIDES" follows this line of visual effects...
ReplyDeleteCan I say that I'm a little disappointed? I was expecting something like Haunted Mansion or Phantom Manor. Instead, we got something with an exterior like HM or PM but with a ride like Pinocchio or the Journey into Your Imagination. Not necessarily bad, but not something to anchor an entire land. C Ticket.
ReplyDeleteThat's a whole lot of CGI.
ReplyDeletevery fantastic, and liked it. But, it needs Cantonese and Mandarin in this one so it won't confuse the locals.
ReplyDeleteI still have to see the Tokyo Disney Seas Tower of Terror and compare. I've heard it is the Best of the 4 Towers. The exterior architecture hereon this Manor turned out better than the model and may be a highlight of the Hong Kong Park.
ReplyDeleteTo the "disappointed" Anonymous: The main problem in your disappointment is probably not coming from the ride itself but from the fact that you expected something else than it was supposed to be. Mystic Manor has never been conceived like a new horrific mansion and anyone expecting it like this will be disappointed. But the ride - in the angle that was chosen and NOT the one you expected - is absolutely perfectly done.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me a famous quote from master filmmaker Akira Kurozawa saying to journalists: "you cannot blame me if i've chosen to do a film "red" and you expected it to be "green". We can discuss the quality of my "red" but not on something that i've never intended to do".
And, for the other Anonymous waiting to compare Mystic Manor with TDS Tower of Terror, it's another mistake. Although there is some similar points in the storyline ( two explorers collecting antiques artifacts ) it's two different stories, two different kind of rides, etc... Don't compare them, just enjoy the two DIFFERENT rides for what they are and NOT what YOU would like them to be!
Fantastic!! on par with the best from TDS! Why, indeed, do they do originality better in any park EXCEPT the US? The new mermaid ride at WDW fantasyland is a C ticket at best. Why the simplistic Pooh ride in Orlando, instead of the tried and true brilliance of Pooh's Hunny Hunt at TDL? Mystic Manor is an e-ticket WOW. Carsland is obviously for the US nascar nation...dumb dumb dumb.
ReplyDeleteLove the singing in English and Cantonese but not Mandarin.
ReplyDeleteLove the singing voices in English and Cantonese but not Mandarin.
ReplyDelete"Don't compare them, just enjoy the two DIFFERENT rides for what they are" - well said, let´s just hope that they will never "improve" HM or PM with "new and fresh" projection effects like the ones that abound in this new ride (MM). I also must say that I am not terribly unhappy with the existing ride systems, for me, trackless cars are an expensive gimmick, I don´t really think they make anything with a track worthless (as some people on the net have suggested). The trackless system pushed the price tag for TDLs Pooh ride to a staggering 150 million USD - IMHO, too little of that money can be seen in the scenes (nice as the ride is).
ReplyDeleteEven though I really liked this attraction, I would never change it for the Haunted Mansion.
ReplyDeleteFor those who say that the HM is scary, I really don't agree. For the younger guests it may be a little frightening in the beginning, but after after Leota I'm sure that they will enjoy and consider it to be a really fun attraction. I don't think that the HM may traumatize anyone, not even the younger guests; for me it's the perfect blend of comedy with a little harmless horror for a Disney Park.
And for those who say that Tokyo Disney Sea TOT is the best one, I really don't agree; for me the Twilight Zone theme is much better for this attraction and I really prefer it.
Also, I really don't think that Cars Land is dumb, on the contrary, I think that it's an awesome land, but I agree that imagineering should go back to its roots and do more attractions like Mystic Manor; original concepts not based on an existing movie/ franchise. I also agree that the Little Mermaid is only a C-Ticket.
Anyway this new attraction is excellent in every way, but I prefer Phantom Manor, even with less technologically advanced effects.
Wouldn't it be great to see a HM with this ride vehicle?
Thankyou for all the lovely and interesting photos, video's and information you have been sharing with all of us. I'm from Sydney, Australia; and I've been following your blog since before I visited the US for the first time in September 2012. The US has some great treats when it comes to your themeparks (well ... just the Disney and Universal ones!)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed watching this video - what I like most is the new level of ride technology the WDI's have taken Mystic Manor to. I think watching the video, and experiencing the ride are two very different things. I'm not sure how someone can say one ride is better than this one; when the key to knowing is to ride it to know for sure.
I noticed when I came to the US, that the creative teams behind the Disney and Universal rides go big - or they don't bother at all; which WOW'd me timelessly. After visiting the WWoHP in Orlando; I think the team there have taken rides to a whole new level; and in saying that I was expecting a little bit more from this ride but I still think it looks amazing. I'm sure Disney plans to unleash the best in their US parks very soon.
Keep up the great work on your blog and facebook page. A massive fan here!
