We didn't talked about Hong Kong Disneyland since the opening of Mystic Manor and here is an update about HKDL future. So, is there anything new in the plans for HKDL in the years to come? Yes! HKDL is planning plenty of new things for the coming years which they will announce officially later this year or early next year.
First, HKDL will ask Hong Kong legislative council to approve the capital for building the awaited third HKDL hotel, which would be a high-end hotel. And HKDL is also investigating the possibility for a fourth and fifth hotel afterwards. But the Hong Kong Disneyland Downtown project is still in "Blue Sky" mode as they want to carefully choose the brands and restaurants which will be part of it, as these would need to attract both the locals and Chinese guests at this HKDL Downtown District.
In the park itself now: HKDL have plans until 2017. The park will have in 2014 its first time ever Night Parade ( if we don't count the Halloween night parade ) and for HKDL 10th Anniversary in 2015 a new day parade is expected and a new attraction - which will amaze little kids - will probably open for the 10th Ann Celebration on September 12, 2015.
Although not officially announced by Disney, last February Hong Kong city’s financial chief John Tsang Chun-Wah announced that a Marvel attraction will come to HKDL. And i've been told that it has received the green light and should be indeed the next expansion of Tomorrowland with an opening in - or before - 2017. Don't count, though, on a Marvel "land" but more on a Marvel "experience" with a E-Ticket Marvel ride, and more on a Marvel theme, the whole thing being part of Tomorrowland. So, it seems that Hong Kong Disneyland will be very probably the first Disney theme park in the world to open a Marvel attraction!
And, yes, HKDL is also now planning for the expansion from 2018 to 2022, so there will be more to come in the future at HKDL!

That's really interesting. I'd wish for a second gate at the resort, but making HKDL stronger would probably be the best move.
ReplyDeleteDo you think they'll shift the focus to Adventureland after the Marvel project?
Honestly, Dejiki, i have no idea and didn't hear anything saying that the expansion will go then to Adventureland after the Marvel project in Tomorrowland.
ReplyDeleteAlain, I hope they don't make the EDL mistake and build too many hotels before they have the park to support and keep them filled. Walt Disney World has done it about right over the years according to what they have to keep the guests there. What percentage of guests are local and what are the numbers of visitors from other country's?
ReplyDeleteAny news on dlp - since the rumours of TWDC not funding any more? Thanks
ReplyDeleteToday news are about HKDL, news about DLP future will come when i will post the article about it.

ReplyDeleteHonor Hunter reported previously that Namor would be the first Marvel character to appear at Disney Parks. Do you know what happened to this project?
A new attraction that will amaze little kids in 2015? It can't be too complex, like Mystic Manor, as the opening date is only 2 years away...
More interested to see if Toy Story Mania ever gets built on the plot in the back of the park.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't bet on Toy Story Mania, but who knows?
ReplyDeleteTo Allan: I don't know where Honor heard this about Namor because i've never - but really NEVER - heard so far anything about something involving Namor.
To Anonymous: For HKDL guests distribution, more than 40% of the guests come from Mainland China, while about 30% for Hong Kong locals and 30% from the rest of the world. This was the figure last year, but the distribution might have changed after Mystic Manor opened.
I hope the park could add more dark rides like Peter Pan and the little mermaid. It just doesn't feel Disney at all by building a Marvel attraction.
ReplyDeleteRe Allan: The entry was part of April fool's if you look at the tags.
The original plan was for HKDL to receive the Star Tours ride system, just with an Avengers overlay. Last I heard that had been canceled (mercifully). Maybe it was resurrected? Or they've cooked up something else..
ReplyDeleteEither way, this park needs a lot more than just one ride. And I can't imagine building more hotels until they actually flesh out the park.
Any hints at all on the 2015 ride? Are we talking spinner/flat, dark ride, walk through?
ReplyDeleteLittle kids will be amazed, but will adults care?
As a matter of fact, Brian, there IS a hint in the article about this one. There is even two hidden hints, one for each upcoming new attraction. I've been asked to don't reveal what will be the theme of the new attractions but i didn't resisted to include two hidden hints inside the article. Of course your job now is to find them as i can't tell you more. All i can tell you to help you is that one of the new attractions will be a E ticket while the other one can be considerer as a C ticket. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI think that Disney is really delayed in building Marvel attractions at their parks.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the MK parks are not the best place to build Marvel lands or attractions, but HKDL is becoming such a thematic mess that it wouldn't matter.
And the park will need something really good and original to compete with SDL and keep attracting people from mainland China.
I also agree that more hotels are not what the Resort needs at the moment.
Perfect, thanks Alain! (Although I'm useless and can't figure out the hints).
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for a fantasyland C-ticket dark ride in that case.

ReplyDeleteIs this Marvel Experience the same as the one being planned for HKDL?
I have no clue of what is this new attraction for kids. If it will be unique, I can't get the picture> But as long as they create it like Mystic Manor, it'll be more unique. and yeah, I'll bet this attraction on fantasyland.
ReplyDeleteTo Allan: No, the one at the link is a different "Marvel Experience" project and is apparently not designed by WDI, when the one at HKDL will be designed by HKDL Imagineers.
ReplyDeletehe said the new attraction will a"maze" little kids... did i find the hint? :)
