Global Sing-Along to celebrate It's a Small World 50th Anniversary !
It's a Small World, will celebrate its 50th and golden anniversary on April 10!
"On Thursday, April 10, 2014, hundreds of voices from Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan, Disneyland Paris in France and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will sing the unforgettable theme song of the 'happiest cruise that ever sailed the seven seas,' " Disney Parks and Resorts said Friday.
To initiate the merrymaking, a virtual sing-along is being launched Friday at SmallWorld50.com, where fans "may record videos of themselves singing the classic song" and create virtual dolls to benefit the United Nations Children's Fund.
For every video recorded and digital doll shared, the Walt Disney Company will make a donation to benefit UNICEF, $100,000 in total. This will be in addition to a $150,000 gift the company has already earmarked for the organization, which works in more than 190 countries and territories to save and improve children's lives."
From People online: "The public first heard the theme song on April 22, 1964, the opening day of the 1964 New York World's Fair.
Along with a lifelike Abraham Lincoln who stood up and talked, dinosaurs that hovered over newly introduced Ford Mustangs, and a General Electric presentation about America's technological progress, Walt Disney – the fair's "farthest flung impresario," as The New York Times described him – also presented what would prove to be the expo's most popular draw: It's a Small World – a Salute to UNICEF, "in which visitors enjoy a 10-minute boat ride seeing scenes of foreign lands," reported the newspaper.
Of all people, it was semi-retired Hollywood star Joan Crawford – despite her reputation for mistreating her own kids – who pushed to have Disney honor the world's children.
As the widow of Pepsi-Cola's late CEO Alfred Steele, Crawford sat on the Pepsi board. When the company hesitated in hiring Disney for the pavilion it would sponsor at the fair, Crawford reputedly put her formidable foot down – and Pepsi sponsored It's a Small World.
"Disney's realistic robots," said Time magazine, "stalk the fair. [Small World] has about 350 of them, doll-size, flanking a boat ride that children seem to like more than anything else. Scottish dolls climb steep plaid mountains, Iranian dolls fly on Persian carpets, and French dolls cancan."
During peak periods, the ride – which during its development was called Children of the World – drew up to 40,000 fairgoers a day at 90 cents per adult (about $6.75 today) and 65 cents for those under 12. By the end of its two-year New York run, Small World had been seen by 10 million people.
Knowing it was too good to tear down along with the rest of the fair, "Mr. Disney," said The Times, "has all future rights to It's a Small World, which he may move to Disneyland, in California."
And so he did – situating it directly north of the Matterhorn in the newly expanded Fantasyland, where it opened under a sparkly new edifice on May 28, 1966."

Thanks to Screamscape for the info!
Also, Disney and IMAX signed a deal and the new Star Wars Trilogy will be released in IMAX as well as several movies including Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tomorrowland, and of course Star Wars: Episode VII. You have the full press release on D&M Facebook page HERE.

DreamWorks Jeffrey Katzenberg Unveil Plan for Shanghai Dream Center !
Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation and Chinese partner Li Ruigang, Chairman & CEO of China Media Capital, together with representatives from the Shanghai government unveiled today designs for the 15 billion yuan ($2.4 billion) and 463000 square meters entertainment complex in Shanghai, expanding Hollywood's growing ties with China.
From Associated Press: The "DreamCenter," will open in 2017 and will have a 500-seat IMAX cinema with international film festivals and red carpet events in mind, bars, restaurants and performance venues, the companies said. It will also showcase a "Dream Avenue" theater district modeled on London's West End and New York City's Broadway.
The project is led by "Kung Fu Panda" and "Shrek" maker DreamWorks Animation, Chinese investment fund CMC Capital Partners, whose owners include state-owned companies, and Hong Kong developer Lan Kwai Fong.
"This will become the world's third great urban center of entertainment and arts alongside New York's Broadway and London's West End," said DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg at a news conference in a former cement factory, which will become one of the performance venues.
The area near the 2010 Shanghai Expo site in the city's west will also include the headquarters of animation production company Oriental DreamWorks, a joint venture between DreamWorks and Chinese partners which will produce "Kung Fu Panda 3."
Below, a digital rendering of the 500-seat IMAX cinema.
The 15-hectare (40-acre) site includes eight outdoor events plazas. The project gives Shanghai an opportunity to diversify beyond its status as a financial and manufacturing center by adding media and cultural industries.
Another project highlighting Hollywood's influence in China is Shanghai Disneyland, the first Disney park on the Chinese mainland. It is scheduled to open in the city's Pudong district at the end of next year. Below, a rendering of the future Dream Center office buildings in Shanghaî.

Shanghaî Disneyland "Treasure Cove" POTC Land Artwork Unveiled !
The icing on the top of the cake during this WDC shareholder meeting came when was unveiled this fantastic rendering of Shanghaî Disneyland "Treasure Cove", the Pirates of Caribbean land - click on it to see it in mega high-res.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure" is the title of the ride and will feature characters and settings from the 4-movies film franchise inspired by the theme park attraction. It will include Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones as main characters, "but also likely to feature many of the supporting roles missing from the rest of the Pirates rides worldwide".
The land will include along with the POTC ride a full scale pirate ship, Indian canoes, and other Pirates-inspired elements. A Pirates stunt show was also envisioned but not confirmed yet.
“Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions in our parks, and we really couldn’t imagine Shanghai Disneyland without Pirates,” said Bob Iger, Disney chairman and CEO. “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience that would appeal to our Chinese guests while remaining true to its Disney heritage.”
For the first time ever, a Disney Park will be home to a Pirates-themed land—Treasure Cove—and an e-ticket attraction called Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure. The attraction will feature a combination of new technology and innovation to bring guests along a pirate adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Davy Jones, providing our guests who visit the Shanghai Disneyland Park an experience unlike anything else in the world.
“We are extremely proud of all the work underway to bring the Shanghai Disney Resort to life,” said Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “And we’re excited to re-imagine the iconic world and characters of Pirates for the first time as an entire land that celebrates the creativity, imagination and adventure of both the fan favorite attraction and the popular film franchise.”

Big Announcements From Bob Iger at WDC Annual Stockholders Meeting : Star Wars 7, Cars 3 , Incredibles 2, Shanghaî Pirates Land, and more !
The WDC annual stockholders meeting is currently happening and BIG news have been announced by Bob Iger himself and already posted by Hollywood press: first, Iger announced that a Cars 3 and a Incredibles 2 sequels are in development , although no released dates have been announced. An Incredibles 2 is a very good idea indeed, and the script will be written by Brad Bird, hope Brad will direct it too. Answering to a question of a stockholder Iger said that no animated feature in 2D are in development.
Iger also talked about Star Wars Episode 7 and revealed that the story will happen 30 years "after" Episode 6 with "familiar faces" returning - guess who? - and "a trio of new leads".. No casting for Star Wars 7 was apparently announced and R2D2 seems to be the only robot who will be part of the new trilogy.
Here is an excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter article just posted - full article is HERE:
"Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger disclosed Tuesday that Pixar is working on a new Cars movie and a newIncredibles film. He also said Frozen is close to surpassing Toy Story 3 as the biggest animated film of all time, and that the next Star Wars movie will pick up 30 years after the events in 1983's Return of the Jedi, a timeframe that conceivably would allow Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to play aging versions of their iconic characters, though Iger only hinted at such possibilities.
"There will be some very familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads," Iger said. "The team is well into preproduction and from the concept art that I have seen so far, Star Wars: Episode VII really looks amazing."
As for Pixar, the Disney CEO said: "We have plans for a new Cars movie and on top of that Brad Bird is already working on a great story for a new Incredibles film."
And from Variety:
"The new “Star Wars,” that J.J. Abrams is directing from London’s Pinewood Studios, will be set 30 years after 1983′s “Return of the Jedi” and will feature new and familiar faces.
“Girls” actor Adam Driver is in talks to play the villain in the new film. Others battling for lead roles include “Downton Abbey” thesp Ed Speleers, “Attack the Block” star John Boyega, “Breaking Bad” and “Friday Night Light’s” Jesse Plemons and theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.
The news was announced on Star Wars’ Twitter account.
“Rumor has it that almost every actor in the world has been cast in this movie, but so far, the official cast member that we’ve confirmed, the only one, is R2D2. Played by R2D2,” said Disney chief Bob Iger at the company’s shareholders meeting in Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday.
During the early part of the two hour meeting he said, “I know many of you were hoping for some ‘Star Wars’ news, but it’s really early in the process, so there really isn’t much that I can share with you right now.”
Iger also said a fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise is in development but has not yet been green lighted.
Talking about Pirates, Iger also announced officially the Pirates Land for Shanghaî Disneyland. We knew it already but now it's official. Here is the Variety post about it:
"Disney’s Shanghai Disneyland will include Treasure Cove, a new themed land that will include a “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride designed specifically for Chinese guests.
The first look of the attraction was revealed at Disney’s shareholders meeting in Portland, Oregon, by Disney chief Bob Iger.
The new ride will be the first ride to be based on the “Pirates” films, and revolve around a battle for sunken treasure, and incorporating new effects and technology.
Disney has previously added Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow to the “Pirates” rides in its other parks and has a “Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow” walk-through show at the Hollywood Studios park in Orlando, but the Shanghai “Pirates” will be the first actual ride to be designed around the film franchise."
Last but not least ( so far ) D23 announced the next D23 Expo in 2015 and here is the news release:

The Incredibles and Ratatouille to be Re-released in 3D !
We learn thanks to Screen Daily that Pixar will re-released in 3D The Incredibles and Ratatouille! The two movies are currently being prepped for a 3D release and Pixar’s director of 3D production Josh Hollander said about The Incredibles and Ratatouille 3D:
“Right now we’re working on The Incredibles, which is a lot of fun in 3D. I’m not sure what the release strategy for it will be. It’s been an interesting challenge to work on technology because - while the film was released 10 years ago - the technology is even older as it took four years to make. We have a version of Ratatouille, which works really well in 3D and we’re trying to figure out exactly what the release strategy for that will be."
These films will be released after the 3D reissues of Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc.
I think that we as an industry may have lost some of our audience for 3D with releases that didn’t beg for the medium or didn’t warrant the medium or didn’t use the median in a nuanced and sophisticated and comfortable way. I think it’s possible that we drove some folks away from 3D with the higher ticket price or whatever else. But I also think that as the industry settles on a more nuanced approach, I really hope and believe that the audiences will return.”

Spain Port Aventura to Open a €100M Ferrari Theme Park in 2016
Port Aventura announced they will open in 2016 a €100 million Ferrari theme park, close to the existing Port Aventura park. And it will include too a new premium hotel with 250 rooms! Below, high-res concept-arts and the full press release. This should be a great addition to the already excellent Port Aventura!
PortAventura Entertainment S.A.U. (“PortAventura”) has reached a licensing agreement with Ferrari S.p.A. (“Ferrari”) to establish “Ferrari Land”, a new theme park dedicated to the global brand of Ferrari within the PortAventura destination resort near Barcelona, Spain.
The new branded site (expected to open during 2016) will be the sole Ferrari theme park in Europe and will envisage a total investment of more than €100 million.
Ferrari Land will be built on a total surface area of 75,000 square meters and benefit from several rides (including the highest and fastest vertical accelerator in Europe)...
... a new premium hotel with 250 rooms and 5 star service, restaurants, shops and large simulation areas for car racing.
This new partnership with Ferrari, the world's most powerful brand for the second consecutive year (according to the annual Global 500 report, February 2014), and PortAventura (Europe’s second largest destination resort and the largest in the Mediterranean) will allow the resort to further improve its position as a leading European destination resort. At present, PortAventura receives nearly 4 million visits annually, of which nearly 50% are from outside Spain.
Sergio Feder, PortAventura Executive Chairman: “Since entry we implemented a long term plan supported by well-known international brands to increase visitors to approximately 5 million yearly and to transform PortAventura into the best destination resort in Europe. Ferrari is an obvious choice not only for the values the brand represents, but also for their experience in the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park. For us, it is also an honour to collaborate with such a worldwide recognized brand”.
