Disney France unveiled the beautiful French poster above for Disney's Moana ( called Vaiana in France, don't ask me why ) which i think is, esthetically speaking, better than the American one below, though not bad too.
Vaiana is the name we got in west Europe due to copyrights conflicts with the name Moana. So, France, Spain, Italy...she will be called Vaiana which means " water from the cave".
It is called Vaiana “for various trademark reasons that I don’t really want to get into” - the quote is reported to be from John Musker. may or may not be correct, but seems a plausible explanation. There is also a rumour that it has sth. to do with the porn actress Moana Pozzi, which may be the reason Musker did not want to elaborate on the topic. Since Moana is certainly more catchy, there must be a good reason for the change...
