Discover UKU, Volcano and Main Character of Next Pixar's Animated Short " Lava "

Pixar's new animated short "Lava" won't be released before one year - with Pete Docter's awaited "Inside Out" - but the LA Times has posted an article with the first rendered still of the main character, a volcano named Uku ( his love interest is Lele ). Here is what director James Ford Murphy told to the LA Times about what went into the short:

"I thought it would be so cool to fall in love with a place who’s also a character […] I wanted to make Uku appealing and likable but also look like he’s been carved out of lava flows."

James Ford Murphy also learned to play ukulele and wrote a love song, "Lava," which you'll hear in the short animated, performed by Hawaiian recording artists Kuana Torres Kahele and Napua Greig.

And by the way, this artwork is already on display in Pixar's atrium as you can see on this Instagram photo posted by Eric Chu.

Pixar "Inside Out" Characters Revealed !

The five characters that you see above are - along with the little girl named Riley - the ones which represents the different emotions in Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera's next Pixar animated movie "Inside Out" , a film which explores Riley emotions and how she react.

From Upcoming Pixar: "Amy Poehler voices Joy, the leader of the group; Lewis Black is Anger, Bill Hader is Fear, Mindy Kaling is Disgust, and Phyllis Smith is Sadness. They all work in tandem at a headquarters of sorts, watching Riley’s POV on a screen, adjusting her emotions, and storing her memories. Other areas of the mind, including Dream Production, Long-Term Memory, and Imaginationland, are connected to the headquarters by a literal Train of Thought."

"Things go awry when Joy and Sadness are forced out of the headquarters, leaving Anger, Fear, and Disgust to operate Riley. An extended sequence showed the trio struggling with this task as Riley interacts with her parents. Turns out we don’t just see inside Riley’s mind; her mother and father also have unique groups of emotions. The three teams play off of each other in a fast-paced dinner table scene that got a ton of laughs at the D23 panel."

Monsters University : The Greek Council

Pixar has released a series of pictures showing the different Monsters University students association. The pics above and below are the french version but the english one are the same, or almost, please click on each picture to see them in high-res.

Above, CLAIRE WHEELER, GREEK COUNCIL PRESIDENT and BROCK PEARSON, GREEK COUNCIL VICE PRESIDENT

Claire Wheeler is the Greek Council president at Monsters University, and this year she is one of the chosen emcees for the school’s annual Scare Games. Don’t be fooled by Claire’s brooding exterior and monotone drawl—banal in appearance, on the inside she is a galvanizing force of school spirit who diligently warns the Scare Game participants of the dangers they will face.

Brock Pearson, this preppy-looking fraternity monster has been chosen to assist the Greek Council president in emceeing the school’s annual Scare Games. Jock-like and what some might refer to as a “meathead,” Brock is a loud, enthusiastic emcee who relishes the danger of the Scare Games’ challenges.

Below, OOZMA KAPPA (OK)

A collection of wholesome, good-natured misfits, the adorable brothers of Oozma Kappa (OK) have bonded over their inability to make it through the Scaring Program. With only four bodies in the house, they don’t even have enough members to compete in the Scare Games. What they lack in Scariness and self-confidence, they make up for in heart.

Next association ROAR OMEGA ROAR (RΩR)

The Roar Omega Roar (RΩR) fraternity is made up of the best of the best. They’re the smartest, most skilled, Scariest monsters at Monsters University, and come from families with a long, proud history of Scaring. While the RΩRs may be preppy in dress, they are ferocious in action and downright ruthless, if necessary. Self-declared as the most elite house on campus, the RΩRs are lead by Johnny Worthington who presides over the house like an all-powerful monarch. Eager to continue their Scare Games winning streak, the RΩRs will do whatever it takes to stay on top.

Next are PYTHON NU KAPPA (PNK)

Pretty in pink, the sisters of Python Nu Kappa (PNK) are not to be underestimated. Led by their fearless queen bee Carrie, these ladies are smart, cold-hearted and merciless. Covered in pink from head to toe, the PNKs sweet exterior quickly turns terrifying when the Scare Games begin.

Next, are the JAWS THETA CHI (JOX)

Big on brawn but short on brainpower, the Jaws Theta Chi (JOX) fraternity brothers are rarely seen without their flashy letterman jackets. The JOX are brutal competitors who never hesitate to do whatever it takes to beat their opponent, even if it’s breaking the rules. Despite practically living at the gym or on the field, these sports-loving monsters often prove that bigger doesn’t always mean better when it comes to Scaring.

Next is SLUGMA SLUGMA KAPPA (EEK)

The athletic sisters of Slugma Slugma Kappa (EEK) spend most of their days working out and running drills to perfect their Scaring skills. Their initiation is a triathlon, and training together 24/7 has strengthened the bonds of sisterhood so much so that these strong, self-assured girls are ready to out-work and out-scare any monster they encounter together.

The last association is ETA HISS HISS (HSS)

The Eta Hiss Hiss (HSS) sorority has been around since the beginning of Monsters University and the members are as mysterious as they are terrifying. The HSS sisters might be pale, mysterious and sullen, but these intimidating Goth girls are fierce competitors and tough as nails. Fittingly, their most distinguished alumna is one of the most powerful, Scary monsters on campus who every new Scare student strives to impress—Dean Hardscrabble.

Brave "Temple Run" Special Edition

Disney Mobile’s newest iOS game inspired by Pixar upcoming animated "Brave" will be released on June 14th and chances are that it's going to be a huge hit on the iTunes Appstore. Here is why, and as you will see the guys of Disney Mobile have been pretty smart on this one.

Last year an iOs game called "Temple Run" was released and became almost instantly a huge success - right now the game has been uploaded 80 million times and there is 16 million daily active users!
Why Temple Run was so successful? Well, i've downloaded it a few months ago and i enjoyed it so much that i even intended to do a post about it because this is a game that all of you Adventureland fans will love! Temple Run is amazingly easy to play, so easy that it's almost stupid (!), and it's pretty addictive too. But most of all Temple Run is obviously paying tribute to one of the most famous adventurer of all time: Indiana Jones.

Now, you all remember this famous Raiders of the Lost Ark opening scene, when Indy stole the idol and run out of the temple to save his life? Well, that's what Temple Run is all about: running for your life with a stolen idol, chased by evil apes! All you have to do is to run, avoid the obstacles, slide under the trees or jump over, collect as many as possible golden coins that you find on your run, and this as long as possible - the longer you run without falling or be catched by the apes, the best your score is. Looks pretty simple doesn't it? Well, it's almost as simple as that, and the good news is that Temple Run is a FREE game on the appstore.

All the graphics have a great Indy style and when you fall, the next page - depending if you unfortunately fall in the swamp or another way - also has a funny ironic artwork over the score...

Now, what is the link in all this with Brave, you ask? I'm going to tell you all about it but first, have a look at this short video showing Temple Run in action, it's important for what will follow.

So, the guys at Disney Mobile saw Temple Run and almost instantly understood how they could adapt the game for Pixar's Brave. And that's what happened, on June 14th a "Brave edition" of Temple Run will be released on the Appstore. The game and its rules will be exactly the same: run for your life! Except that here the "Indy" character is replaced by Merinda, the evil apes by a ferocious demon bear named Mordu - who had attacked an encampment of the royal family when Merida was a little girl - and the temple / tropical / swamp decor by a scottish forest / grotto / ruins landscape.

Just like in Temple Run you'll have to collect as much coins as possible, and you'll also be able to enable an "invisibility" or "coin magnet" power up. However, since Merida is an archer, while you’re running along you’ll come across special archery sections. Targets appear on either the left or right of the environment and must be tapped to shoot an arrow into them. Hit all the targets in a section in a row and you’ll earn a bonus and this is adding an additional element of strategy while you play, which didn't existed in the original Temple Run.

Want to have a closer look at this Brave Temple Run edition? Here is a video, and you'll see how this Brave edition use the same principles than Temple Run. Now, although the original is free on the Appstore the Disney - Pixar "Brave" edition won't be ( what a surprise! ) but it will cost only 99¢ when the game will hit the App Store on June 14th. In the meantime you can download the free original Temple Run game and you'll understand instantly why Disney Mobile is gonna make a lot of money with this Temple Run "Brave" special edition!

If the video above don't work here is a another one, the game trailer.
